FEATURE FILM:
THE INVENTOR
Directed by Jim Capobianco (co-directed by Pierre-Luc Granjon)
Saturday, 5pm (Hammer Theater, San Jose)

+ Q&A WITH Jim Capobianco (Director) and Kat Alioshin (Producer) FOLLOWING THE FILM
Academy Award® nominee Jim Capobianco is bringing the world of Leonardo da Vinci to life in a new stop motion puppet and 2-D hand drawn animated feature film, The Inventor.
Discover a playful toy-like world of invention featuring flying machines, kings, queens and sneaky spies, where nothing seems to go right for the world’s greatest inventor, and he is always running out of time. At the centre of it all is the audacious and ever questioning Princess Marguerite (Daisy Ridley) who is the key to solving Leonardo’s (Stephen Fry) quest for the meaning of life.
Written and directed by Jim Capobianco, an Academy Award® nominated writer of the Pixar hit Ratatouille, the project gathers an award-winning creative team with a stellar track record in animation. Jim Capobianco’s credits include key contributions to Disney and Pixar animated classics like The Lion King, Wall-E, Inside Out, Coco and most recently Mary Poppins Returns.

Animation producer Kat Alioshin is passionate about all forms of animation but has specialized in stop-motion animation since 1991. Starting with Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) through Coraline (2009). She was Director of Photography on Some Divine Wind (1992), now in the permanent collection at New York Museum of Modern Art. On James and the Giant Peach (1996) she was Assistant Director to Director Henry Selick and continues to collaborate with him. The stop-motion/live-action mixed short film Mermaids on Mars (2015) won the Carmel Film Festival Animation Award along with 21 other festival awards across the country. She received critical acclaim for producing the “Life with Loopy” segment on the Nickelodeon show KaBlam! Alioshin collaborated on the budget for the stop-motion feature The Inventor by Jim Capobianco. Continuing in a tradition of keeping stop-motion history alive, she co-hosts a podcast called The We Know Jack Show featuring interviews of crew members from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas. Kat will be in the Q&A after the screening of “The Inventor”!

Kim Keukeleire is taking the reins as Animation Director whose recent films include Isle of Dogs, Fantastic Mr. Fox and Frankenweenie. HeFang Wei & François-Marc Baillet are heading up our 2D Animation Department as 2D Animation Directors where we are bringing together some of the most exciting talent in traditional animation. Nicolas Flory is the 2D Supervisor and editor, while Fabrice Faivre is the VFX Supervisor.
